About the Stone
Kota Stone — Kota pathar, as it is known locally — is a fine-grained limestone quarried around the Kota district of Rajasthan, the same region our own units are based in. That gives us a direct line to the quarries most suppliers only buy from secondhand. It has been the default flooring material across Indian homes, offices and public buildings for generations, for reasons that still hold: it is genuinely cost-effective, hard-wearing, and does not need chemical sealers to perform well.
It is often sold as “Kota marble”, and green Kota marble in particular, but the stone is technically a limestone rather than a true marble. The green variety is the least common of the four Kota colourways — blue, black, brown and green — and the one we finish in the widest range of surfaces. It resists staining and heavy foot traffic with very little maintenance, and it is quarried without the chemical treatments some other stones require.
Beyond flooring, Kota Stone is specified for parking tiles, staircases, wall cladding, kitchen and bathroom surfaces, terrace and roof laying, industrial floors and landscaping, where the river wash and lapatro finishes give it a softer, more contemporary character than the raw natural surface. We manufacture and supply at wholesale volumes from our own units in Kota and dispatch across India, so rates are quoted per square foot straight off our own lines — no trader margin in between.

Calibrated to an even thickness, then taken up to a full mirror polish. This is the finish that pulls the deepest colour out of green Kota Stone, and the one most people mean when they ask for polished Kota Stone flooring — lobbies, showrooms, indoor floors and feature walls. Also produced pre-polished, so tiles arrive ready to lay.
Ground back to an even, low-sheen surface. Semi polished Kota Stone is warmer and far less reflective than a full polish, and more forgiving of scuffing and heavy foot traffic — the everyday specification for indoor flooring in homes, offices and shops.
Brushed under running water until the surface takes on a soft, leathered hand. River wash Kota Stone is matt, dark in tone and genuinely grippy underfoot, which makes it our recommendation for outdoor flooring, terraces, pool surrounds, parking and any wet area. Supplied calibrated so thickness stays consistent across the lot.
Honed flat, then lightly polished so only the high points catch the light. Lapatro sits between matt and mirror: low glare, a soft satin sheen, and the finish architects and landscape designers ask for by name. Produced in smaller runs than the other three.
Where a floor has to take vehicles, forklifts or years of outdoor weather, thickness does more for it than finish does. We cut Kota Stone in the heavy bands specifically for that work, and ship it in volume — a large share of it south, into Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Supplied uncalibrated in 30–40 mm and 40–50 mm bands, with 35–40 mm cut for buyers who want the extra weight without going to the top band. These are the thicknesses specified for parking, driveways, industrial and warehouse floors, loading areas and heavy outdoor paving — anywhere a thinner tile would crack under point load.

Kota Stone price starts from ₹21 per square foot. That is the entry rate, and it moves with four things from there: the finish, the size, the thickness and the quantity. Kota Stone tiles price for a semi polished 2 × 2 and a mirror polished 4 × 2 off the same block are not the same, and a container load is not priced like a few hundred square feet.
We quote against the specification rather than publishing a full Kota Stone price list, because a fixed list goes stale and never fits the actual job. Send us the finish, size, thickness, quantity and delivery destination and you will get a firm rate back — direct from the manufacturer, with no trader margin in between.
We cut green Kota Stone most often in 2 × 2, 4 × 2, 22 × 22 and 22 × 16, as tiles and as slabs, plus cut-to-size pieces for staircases, risers, copings and kitchen tops.
Thickness comes two ways. Calibrated Kota Stone is machined to an exact figure — we produce 18 mm, 22 mm and 25 mm calibrated. Uncalibrated stone is supplied in bands as it splits: 18–25 mm, 25–30 mm, 30–40 mm and 40–50 mm, with the thicker bands going into parking, industrial floors and heavy outdoor traffic. Anything else we produce to requirement.
Calibration matters more than most buyers expect. A calibrated lot lays flat quickly; an uncalibrated one has to be packed and levelled tile by tile, which costs you in labour on site.
Polished is a full mirror finish — the most reflective, and the one that pulls the deepest colour out of the stone. Semi polished is ground back to a low sheen: warmer, less reflective, and far more forgiving of scuffing, which is why it is the default for indoor floors.
River wash is brushed under running water to a matt, leathered surface with real grip underfoot — the right answer outdoors, in parking and anywhere wet. Lapatro is honed flat and then lightly polished, so it sits between matt and mirror: a soft satin sheen with none of the glare.
Yes, provided you pick the right surface. Natural and river wash finishes are slip-resistant and hold up to vehicle traffic, rain and sun, which is why Kota Stone parking tiles are so common across India. A full mirror polish is the wrong choice outdoors — it gets slippery when wet and the sheen dulls under weather.
Thickness matters as much as finish here. For parking, driveways and industrial floors we supply the heavy bands — 30–40 mm and 40–50 mm — because a thinner tile cracks under point load from a wheel or a jack. For terraces and roofs the stone has a second advantage: it reflects heat better than concrete or dark paving, so the surface below stays cooler.
They are the same material sold under two names. Kota Stone is widely called Kota marble in the Indian market, and green Kota marble is simply the green colourway. Geologically it is a fine-grained limestone, not a true marble — it is softer than granite, harder-wearing than most marbles, and it does not need the sealing regime a real marble floor does.
Four colourways come out of the Kota quarries: blue, black, brown and green. Blue is the most widely used and the cheapest to source; green is the least common, quarried in smaller volumes, and the one we finish in the widest range of surfaces. Buyers also ask us for yellow, grey and red — those are neighbouring Rajasthan limestones and sandstones rather than Kota Stone proper, and we supply those too.
Not if you buy it pre-polished. Traditionally Kota Stone was laid rough and then ground and polished in place, which is slow, messy and adds cost on site. Our polished, semi polished and lapatro tiles arrive finished and calibrated, so they go straight down.
Sealing is optional. The stone resists staining well on its own; a sealer mainly helps in kitchens and around food and oil. We supply a sealer under our own Orchid Surfaces range if you want one.
