About the Stone
Fossil Mint is a pale Indian sandstone from the mint family, named for the fern, leaf and shell impressions that run through it. Its base tones are cream, buff and pale yellow, warming in places to gold or picking up soft green, pink and grey. It is one of the most widely specified mint sandstone paving stones for gardens and courtyards, and it is a forgiving colour to live with — everyday dust that shows immediately on a grey stone barely registers on it.
The fossil markings are what buyers come for. They are natural, so they appear on some slabs and not others and vary from crate to crate. Warmer, more yellow-gold slabs from the same material are sold as Golden Fossil; the tone between the two is often called Yellow Mint. Merchants also list this stone as fossil buff or mint fossil. We can supply it as a deliberate mix of tones or sorted towards one end of the range — tell us which you want before we pack.
Every slab on this page is riven: split along the stone’s natural bed rather than sawn, so the face keeps its own texture. That texture sheds surface water instead of letting it pool, which is why riven fossil mint sandstone paving is a standard choice outdoors. Laying & Care
Fossil mint sandstone paving is easy to live with. A weekly brush, plus an occasional wash with warm water, a mild pH-neutral detergent and a soft-bristled brush, is genuinely all it needs. The cream and buff tones hide everyday dust and light staining far better than a grey or black stone does.
Sealing is worth doing on outdoor paving. Seal once the stone has properly dried out after laying, using a breathable impregnating sealer made for natural stone — it slows staining and moisture pick-up without trapping water in the slab. Efflorescence, a harmless white powdery bloom, can appear in the first few months and clears on its own. Avoid acidic cleaners and heavy pressure washing; both attack the riven face. Fossil Mint riven paving starts at ₹62 per sq. ft. for supply within India. The rate you are quoted depends on the size mix, the thickness and the quantity you need. Export orders are quoted separately on an FOB Mundra basis — send us your sizes and volume and we will confirm a firm figure.
Four standard sizes: 300 × 300 mm (1′ × 1′), 300 × 600 mm (2′ × 1′), 600 × 600 mm (2′ × 2′) and 900 × 600 mm (3′ × 2′). They are supplied either as mixed size patio packs — 60 slabs made up of 16 at 900 × 600, 16 at 600 × 600, 16 at 600 × 300 and 12 at 300 × 300, covering about 18.4 m² — or as single sizes. 600 × 900 mm is the single size buyers ask for most often. Other sizes can be cut to order.
Three thicknesses, all calibrated: 22 mm, 25 mm (also quoted as 1 inch — the same slab under its imperial name) and 38 mm (1.5 inch). 22 mm and 25 mm are the usual choices for patios and garden paving; 38 mm is used where a heavier, more substantial slab is wanted. Other thicknesses can be produced on request.
No. The fern, leaf and shell impressions are a natural feature of the stone, so they show on some slabs and not others, and the amount varies from crate to crate. That variation is part of what people like about it. If fossil detail matters to your project, say so when you enquire — it is worth discussing before we pack.
They are the same family of Indian sandstone, separated mostly by tone. Mint sandstone is the pale cream-to-green base. Fossil mint is that stone showing its fossil markings. Golden fossil describes the warmer, more yellow-gold slabs, and yellow mint sits between the two. UK merchants also list the material as fossil buff or mint fossil. We can supply a deliberate mix of these tones or sort towards one end of the range.
The riven face is split rather than sawn, so it keeps a natural texture instead of a flat polished surface, and that texture sheds surface water rather than letting it pool. It is the reason riven paving is a common choice outdoors. We have not had this stone independently slip-tested, so we do not publish an R-rating or a PTV figure — if your specification needs one, tell us and we will arrange testing.
