Slate stone is a fine-grained metamorphic rock that splits into naturally textured sheets. We supply Indian slate as natural cleft and calibrated tiles for flooring, walling, cladding and water features — indoors and out, from our own units in Kota.

Slate is naturally cleft, so every tile carries its own surface relief and tonal shift. Colours photograph flatter than they read in person — we recommend samples before specifying at scale.

Slate stone is a fine-grained metamorphic rock, formed when clay-rich sediments or volcanic ash are compressed under heat and pressure. That origin gives it a defining property — foliation — which lets it split cleanly into thin, naturally textured sheets. The riven surface is full of character and reads as texture rather than polish, while the stone itself is dense and fine in grain.
Our slate is quarried across the Rajasthan belt — Ajmer, Alwar, Bharatpur, Tonk, Udaipur and Chittorgarh — and from South Indian quarries around Markapur. Colours range from deep Jak Black and Black Rustic through the warm golds and rusts of Vijaya Gold and Autumn, to the greens of D Green and Markapur Green and the shifting tones of Jak Multicolour.
We supply slate stone as natural-cleft and calibrated tiles, in regular sizes and cut-to-size, finished natural, honed, brushed or polished. Everything is crated in seaworthy packing and shipped quarry-direct from our units — a format equally at home on a feature wall, a patio, a pool surround or a roof.
Slate tiles are supplied natural cleft, or calibrated on the back for faster fixing over large wall and floor areas. Cut-to-size is available across the range.

On technical data: we have not published slip-resistance, water-absorption or freeze–thaw figures for slate, because we do not hold current lab reports for these colours. If your specification needs tested values, tell us which standard and we will arrange testing on the batch you are buying rather than quote a generic number.

Yes. Slate is dense and low in porosity, which makes it hard-wearing and resistant to water and staining. It is widely used outdoors for wall cladding, patios, pool surrounds, stepping stones and roofing, as well as indoors on floors and feature walls.
Natural cleft keeps the stone's own riven surface, so thickness varies slightly tile to tile and the texture is pronounced. Calibrated slate is ground to a consistent thickness on the back (and sometimes the face) for easier, faster fixing — useful for large wall and floor areas.
Quality Indian slate holds its colour well. Multicolour slates like Vijaya Gold and Jak Multi can mellow slightly outdoors over years of weathering; a stone sealer helps preserve the original depth and brings out the tones. Blacks and greens are very stable.
Common sizes are 30×15, 60×15, 30×30 and 60×60 cm, in thicknesses from around 8 to 20mm, with calibrated options and cut-to-size available. Tell us your application and we will recommend the right format.

Buyers search for slate stone, slate rock, natural slate, riven slate, slate flagstone, slate paver, slate walling stone and Indian slate — all of them describe the fine-grained metamorphic stone on this page. “Slate tile” usually means a calibrated, cut-to-size piece; “slate slab” a larger uncut sheet.
Yes. We carry three dark slates — Jak Black, a dense natural-cleft black; Black Rustic, a heavily riven black with occasional rust veining; and Brazilian Black, a tighter, more even black. All three can be supplied natural cleft, or honed if you want a flatter black slate floor.
Yes — slate on walls is one of its most common uses. We supply it as flat cleft tiles for wall cladding, as cut-to-size panels for feature walls and fireplace surrounds, and as strips for stacked and ledge-style walling. Tell us the wall area, the fixing method and whether the wall is internal or external and we will recommend a thickness.
Slate is priced per square foot or square metre and moves with the colour, the size, the thickness and the finish — a natural-cleft black in a small tile and a calibrated large-format multicolour are very different rates. Send us the colour, sizes, thickness and quantity and we will quote against your actual specification rather than a headline figure.
