Raveena Indian sandstone riven paving — purple, lilac and rose banding on a grey-buff base

Raveena Indian Sandstone · Riven · Quarry-Direct

Purple, lilac and rose, banded by geology.

Raveena Indian sandstone paving: a pale grey-to-buff base crossed by swirls of purple, lilac and rose. The boldest stone in our riven range, cut and calibrated in our own factories and shipped direct — specified when the paving is meant to be the feature, not the backdrop.

About the Stone

What Raveena sandstone actually is

Raveena sandstone is the most colourful stone we export. A pale grey-to-buff base carries wavy bands and swirls of purple, lilac, heather and rose, with occasional yellow and brown drifting through — the sort of pattern that stops people on a patio and makes them look down. Merchants sell it as Raveena Indian sandstone, and you will also see it spelled Ravina, Ravena or Ravinah; it is all the same stone from the same quarry belt. Buyers searching for a rose sandstone or for Rippon Rose usually end up comparing this stone against our sawn buff — we make both, so ask for the two samples together.

Intensity varies from slab to slab and from one quarry face to the next. We select from faces where the purple sits in bands and swirls rather than saturating the whole slab, which keeps Raveena workable as paving rather than as a novelty. Because the variation is so wide, we photograph the actual crates before a container ships, so you know exactly what is arriving.

Each slab is hand-split along the bedding plane for a riven face, hand-dressed at the edges and calibrated to a nominal 22mm. Water absorption sits in the usual sandstone range of roughly 1–3% and the stone has performed well through freeze-thaw winters, though we hold no independent test certificate for Raveena and do not claim one. Sawn and honed tiles, setts, steps and copings are cut to order in the same stone.

Where It’s Used

Raveena paving in a scheme

Raveena is a high-variation stone, so it works hardest where the surface is meant to be looked at rather than walked over without noticing.

Garden patios

The most common use. Riven Raveena paving in a mixed patio pack gives a purple-and-lilac surface that reads differently in every light and deepens after rain.

Paths and courtyards

The cleft face keeps its grip when wet, so narrow paths, side returns and enclosed courtyards stay usable through a wet winter.

Feature walls and cladding

Cut to smaller formats, the banding becomes the design. Used vertically the purple and rose bands line up into a strong horizontal grain.

Steps, copings and setts

Matching steps, copings, setts and cobbles are cut from the same stone, so an edge or a step detail carries the same colour as the field.

Care & Maintenance

Sealing and looking after it

Raveena needs no special treatment beyond ordinary sandstone care: sweep it, wash it occasionally, and keep it clear of algae and moss so the grip stays reliable. The colours read strongest when the stone is damp, which is why a Raveena patio looks its best after rain.

A breathable impregnating sealer is recommended. As well as resisting stains through wet winters, it holds the purple and pink tones closer to their wet appearance. Test on a spare slab first — the colour lift on this stone is noticeable. Clean with pH-neutral products only; acidic cleaners cause permanent damage to natural stone.

Buyer Questions

Raveena FAQs

How purple is Raveena, really?

It varies more than any other stone in our range. Most slabs read as a pale grey-buff with lilac and heather banding; a minority are strongly purple across the face. We select from quarry faces where the colour sits in bands rather than saturating the slab, and we send photographs of the actual crates before a container ships.

Will the purple fade outdoors?

The colour is mineral — iron and manganese oxides within the stone itself, not a coating or a dye — so it does not wash out. As with any natural stone the surface tone softens a little over the first year or two of weathering, then settles.

Which stones is Raveena closest to?

Modak and Buff Rippon sit in the same family of warm multicolour sandstones. Raveena is the coolest and most purple of the three; Modak runs pink and terracotta, Buff Rippon cream and orange. Raj Blend is the alternative if you want variation in greens and browns instead.

Does Raveena need sealing?

Sealing is optional but recommended. A breathable impregnating sealer resists staining and moisture, and noticeably lifts the purple and pink tones. Test it on a spare slab before treating the whole area, and never use acidic cleaners.

Is Ravina sandstone the same as Raveena sandstone?

Yes. Raveena, Ravina, Ravena and Ravinah are all spellings of the same Indian sandstone, and different merchants use different ones. If you have been quoted for any of these, we can supply against that specification.

Rippon Rose or Raveena — which rose sandstone do you want?

Both are rose-toned Indian sandstones and we manufacture both, so buyers regularly ask us to price them side by side. Rippon Rose, also sold as Rose Rippon, is a sawn and honed buff sandstone with a flat machined face and a soft rose-cream tone — see our Rippon Buff Smooth page. Raveena is riven rather than sawn, with a textured cleft face and much stronger purple, lilac and rose banding. If sandstone in a rose colour is what you are after, ask for both samples in the same box and decide from the stone rather than the photographs.

What sizes does Raveena sandstone paving come in?

The standard mixed patio pack holds 60 slabs at 900 × 600, 600 × 600, 600 × 290 and 290 × 290 mm, all calibrated to 22mm and covering roughly 18.5 m². Single sizes, cut-to-size tiles, matching steps, copings and setts are all cut to order.

How much does Raveena sandstone cost?

Raveena starts at ₹70 per square foot plus GST for Indian customers, ex-works, before freight and packing. Export pricing is quoted FOB Mundra on request, because it depends on the size mix, thickness and destination port — send us the specification and we will price it.

Can I get Raveena in a smooth finish or custom sizes?

Yes. Raveena is available six-side sawn and honed, and in custom sizes and thicknesses to order, alongside matching setts, steps and copings. Talk to us about the format and quantity and we will confirm lead times.
