About the Stone
Teakwood Sandstone is a highly sought-after natural stone from India, characterised by its light-brown veins that give it a distinctive wooden appearance. It's known for high strength, durability, and stain and frost resistance — which is exactly why it's a popular choice for both construction and decorative work, from flooring and wall coverings to pillars, fountains and carved structures.
Geologically it's a quartz-dominant sandstone with feldspar and darker minerals that form the characteristic brown lines, bonded by natural silica cement. Independent test data puts its compressive strength around 60–70 MPa and water absorption roughly 1.5–3%, with reported freeze-thaw testing showing low mass loss — which supports its use across UK gardens when properly jointed and drained. It's sometimes sold as Yellow Teak, Golden Teak or Khatu Teak Wood, and is quarried mainly across Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Care & Maintenance
Teakwood has a moderate open porosity, so a penetrating sealer is normally specified — especially for busy areas, kitchens and pool surrounds — to control staining and keep the warm tones bright. Wipe up spills promptly to prevent darkening or patchy marks.
For routine care, sweep with a soft broom and wash occasionally with a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid acidic or harsh chemical cleaners, which can etch natural stone. Sealed and well-drained, Teakwood holds its character for decades in the UK climate.
No. With a sawn or brushed finish, Teakwood is naturally non-slip (around R10–R11) and stays firm underfoot, which is why it's popular for pool surrounds and garden paths. Honed finishes are smoother, so a textured finish is best for wet areas.
